John Oliver smacks down Holocaust-denying GOP candidate and 'racist' Trump

On Super Tuesday, Republicans in North Carolina gave the 2024 gubernatorial nomination to Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson — a far-right Holocaust denier and Christian nationalist who has a long history of anti-gay remarks and believes that women shouldn't have been given the right to vote. Robinson, despite all that, has received a glowing endorsement from Donald Trump, and "Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver slammed both of them during a scathing commentary on Sunday night, March 10.
Trump has exalted Robinson, who is Black, as "Martin Luther King on steroids" and "Martin Luther King times two," saying that Robinson "should like" the comparison — a comment that Oliver found especially offensive.
The "Last Week Tonight" host told viewers, "Do you know how racist you have to be to give a Black person a compliment that starts by quantifying their human value, and then ends with a demand? It's a lot.”

Robinson, however, has been critical of MLK, saying that his "own feelings on MLK are at best, complicated" — and he argued that sit-in protests by civil rights activists at a lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1960 were harmful to capitalism.
Oliver commented that Robinson's remarks were "not just the argument of an asshole, but an asshole on steroids — an asshole times two."
