Ahead of his speech in Valdosta, Georgia Thursday, 2024 GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance stopped by a local donut shop, where he attempted to make small talk with the workers while placing an order.

"The zoo has come to town," the Ohio senator said to told the woman behind the counter. "Thank you for letting us come in here."

The woman proceeded to tell Vance that she did not want to be filmed.

"She doesn't want to be on film, guys," the VP hopeful told the camera crew. "So just cut her out of anything. I appreciate that, ma'am."

Vance then told the woman, "I'm J.D. Vance and I'm running for vice president," he said before placing his order. "We're going to do two dozen. Just a random sort of stuff here. Yeah, it'll be a lot of glazed here, some sprinkled stuff. Some of these cinnamon rolls. Just whatever makes sense."

The woman once again asked not to be filmed before the senator tried to make small talk with her and another employee.

"How long has this place been around?" Vance asked.

"About four years," one employee replied.

"About four years? Okay," Vance said. "Well, we selected this place. I didn't know if it had been here for 20 years or four years."

The video clip quickly circulated social media.

Foreign policy reporter Laura Rozen replied: the workers don’t seem to want to be props in his painfully awkward attempt at retail politics

Harris' Florida rapid response director Jackson Peel commented: "Poor Ron DeSantis. He worked so hard to build his reputation as Most Awkward Politician but JD Vance just swoops in and takes the title away from him."

Former California Secretary of State candidate Derek Cressman added: "Nothing like a forced, 'act like a normal dude' stunt to convince the little people you know how to populist."

Lincoln Project co-founder Reed Galen wrote: "@jdvance is an early version replicant. You can’t convince me otherwise."

Journalist Jonathan Greenberg said: "It's SUPER CRINGE! Vance is so weird that when he tries to do something that a 'regular guy' would do, it blows up. Also, when the Black woman says she doesn't want to be filmed, he says, 'I'm sorry babe.' Then he calls the White guy, 'sir.'"

Former Barack Obama spokesperson Kevin Cate wrote: "The 'okay' hits so hard."
