'They did try that': Country singer Jason Aldean mocked for dedicating hit song to Trump

Country-rock singer and Donald Trump supporter Jason Aldean is best known for his 2023 hit "Try That in a Small Town," which chastised U.S. cities for their crime rates and argued that such behavior is not tolerated in America's rural areas and small towns.
Following the assassination attempt that former President Donald Trump survived in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, July 13, Aldean dedicated his song to the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee.
But the singer is being mocked by social media users who are pointing out that Butler is a small town and that native New Yorker Trump grew up in the largest city in the United States.

On X, formerly Twitter, television writer Brenden Gallagher posted, "Rhetorically very funny because a guy from a small town shot him, a guy from the big city, which is the very threat outlined in the song."
Gospel of Pop tweeted, "But they did try that in a—nvm."
Screenwriter Barbara Marshall posted, "Isn't Jason Aldean the bloated pork chop who ran offstage without warning his fans that there was an active shooter at one of his concerts?"
Butler is roughly 40 miles from Pittsburgh.
