On Tuesday afternoon, May 13, House Republicans tweeted a bilingual English/Spanish message from their @HouseGOP account. And members of the GOP's MAGA wing were still furious about the Spanish part a day later.

The tweet read, "House Republicans believe in every American's potential to thrive by embracing the power of work," followed by a sentence in Spanish: "Los Republicanos en la Cámara creemos en que cada ciudadano americano tiene el potencial de prosperar y beneficiarse de las oportunidades de trabajo."

That isn't an exact word-word-word translation of the English part, translating to, "The Republicans in the House believe that every American citizen has the potential to prosper and benefit from work opportunities." But the spirit of the tweet's two sentences is similar."

The following day, Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) had an angry reaction on X, tweeting, "Is this a joke,@HouseGOP? We’re in America. We represent Americans. We don’t pander in foreign languages. Speak English."

Bianca Gracia, a pro-Trump Latina and executive director of Latinos For American First, defended the @HouseGOP tweet, posting, "Guys, you do realize that almost 50% of Hispanics voted for Trump!!! Although we speak English, some still like to read and speak Spanish. This just shows that we haven't forgotten the Spanish Speaking audience out there and recognizing them. At least they did English and Spanish. They could have just posted in Spanish. Everyone calm down."

But Gill isn't the only MAGA Republican who is freaking out over the @HouseGOP tweet."

Far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer tweeted, "Why is the House GOP tweeting in Spanish? This is America. We speak English here. President Trump has literally signed English language executive orders. What the hell is the GOP doing?"

X user Pam Salsbury posted, "This is absolutely ridiculous!! Whoever did this needs fired."

MAGA Republican Karen Gillikin tweeted, "@HouseGOP work will set us free! Right Stop stalling and vote yes on Trumps bills! You don’t want to be seen going against Trump by voting so you just don’t vote. We see you."

Another MAGA Republican, Keaton Hobby, wrote, "America’s language is English. The GOP shouldn't pander with Spanish tweets when Trump’s executive order is clear. We need to focus on unity, not division, and that starts with one language. Let's get back to what won in 2024: prioritizing Americans first."
