Judge Andrew Napolitano, Fox News’ senior legal expert, on Monday explained the impact of Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen signaling his willingness to flip, warning the news “should cause the president sleepless nights.”
Napolitano was reacting to an interview Cohen gave ABC News’ George Stephanapoulos on Saturday, during which he insisted his loyalty lies with his family and country, not Trump.
“My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will,” Cohen said when asked about his allegiance to the president. “I put family and country first.”
Napolitano expressed disbelief over Cohen’s interview, telling Fox News host Harris Faulkner he doesn’t know why the target of an investigation would give such a public interview.
“No good can come from somebody who’s under a federal microscope—he’s not a subject of a criminal investigation, he’s the target of a criminal investigation,” Napolitano said. “That means he’s very close to being indicted for something.”
Napolitano added Cohen’s warning “should cause the president sleepless nights,” noting as Trump’s personal attorney, he likely took on cases normal lawyers wouldn’t “dirty their hands” with.
“Should the president be worried?” Faulkner asked.
“Yes,” Napolitano replied, adding Cohen “obviously knows something that the feds are interested in hearing.”
Asked what he suspects Cohen will be indicted for, Napolitano replied “probably bank fraud.”
