These pro-Harris Republicans are determined to get ex-Haley voters 'across that last line'
Election 2024

Although former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley had some biting criticism of Donald Trump during the final weeks of her presidential campaign, she is supporting him now.

Haley reiterated her endorsement of Trump when she spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, and in late July, she even sent a cease-and-desist letter to the PAC Haley Voters for Harris — demanding that they quit using her name in their anti-Trump efforts.

So far, however, Haley Voters for Harris haven't changed their name — which, they maintain, is an accurate one in light of the fact that they are Republicans who supported Haley during the GOP presidential primary but are now supporting Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

Craig Snyder, campaign director for Haley Voters for Harris and a registered Republican, told The Guardian that the group reflects the "sprit" of Haley's campaign and pointed out that Haley supporters were still writing in her name even after she dropped out of the race.

"When we cast our votes in the primaries," Snyder explained, "we weren't really voting for her as an active candidate. But we wanted to send a message that this was not the kind of Republican Party that we wanted, that Trump's period as the spirit-bearer of the party needed to come to an end."

During her Republican National Convention speech, Haley told the crowd that although she had some policy differences with Trump, she considered him a better option than President Joe Biden (who dropped out of the race three days after the convention, giving Harris a full endorsement).

But Snyder is arguing that despite some disagreements with the vice president, Haley Voters for Harris still consider her preferable to Trump.

Snyder told The Guardian, "For those of us in this group, our feeling has been that while we may disagree with the Democratic Party on certain policy issues, the better choice is to continue our opposition to Trump by voting Democratic. When President Biden made the decision to withdraw, we made the decision to continue along those lines and to support Vice President Harris…. We are developing the strongest arguments and factual accounts to give to voters to help them cross that last line… The question is: do they go the last mile and vote for the Democratic nominee? We want to get them across that last mile."
