GOP pollster considers Dem congressional win 'final wake-up call' for House Republicans

Republicans suffered some major disappointments in special elections held on Tuesday, February 13.

Centrist Democrat Tom Suozzi defeated GOP nominee Mazi Pilip in New York's 3rd Congressional District, where he will take over the U.S. House seat formerly held by the disgraced Republican George Santos. And in the Philadelphia suburbs of Bucks County, Republican Candace Cabanas lost to Democrat Jim Prokopiak in a Pennsylvania House of Representatives race.

Prokopiak's victory means that Democrats will maintain their narrow majority in that branch of the Pennsylvania State Legislature.

GOP pollster Frank Luntz is speaking out about Suozzi's win in his U.S. House district, which includes areas of Queens and Nassau County, Long Island. And he's warning fellow Republicans that they are in danger of losing their U.S. House majority in November.

In a February 13 post on X, formerly Twitter, Luntz wrote, "Democrats just flipped George Santos' #NY03 House seat. Tonight is the final wakeup call for the @HouseGOP. If they ignore or attempt to explain away why they lost, they will lose in November as well. The issue agenda is on their side. Their congressional behavior is not."

The GOP pollster also tweeted, "However, don't mistake tonight's result as a #NY03 endorsement of Biden. It isn't. It's a rejection of House Republican chaos. The NY-03 district hates Biden's immigration policy and the crime wave in New York. But congressional Republicans gave voters nothing to vote for."

Attorney Jeffrey Evan Gold, known for his legal analysis for CNN, agreed with Luntz that Suozzi's victory isn't a good sign for House Republicans.

Gold tweeted, "The district was +8 Biden. Then the district was +7.5 Santos. And it will end up about +8-10 Suozzi. A harbinger indeed for November especially if the party pays close attention how it happened."

X user Adam Goldberg, in response to Luntz's tweets, posted, "@FrankLuntz what if the issues and policies aren't on the GOP side? Ever considered that possibility?
