David Weigel, Semafor's national political reporter said Sunday Republicans who are on the ballot midterm elections next year are "starting to see a little bit of damage" to President Donald Trump's handling of the economy.
"But you've got other Republicans who are not on the ballot for a year who are saying maybe the fed will fix it," Weigel said during an appearance on CNN.
The midterm elections are scheduled to take place in November of next year. Economic concerns, including slowing job growth and widespread pessimism about living standards, have emerged as a dominant issue among voters.

Host Manu Raju noted the significant drop in Trump's approval rating, saying that during his first term, his approval rating on the economy among all U.S. adults was 52 percent. "Look at how much it's dropped: 37 percent. Now, that's got to be alarming for the GOP," he said.
Politico's Rachel Blade said during the segment that this drop in the president's rating was "very promising" for Democrats."
"The question for Democrats is, can they keep the focus here? I mean, right now, we're just talking about this this Trump tweet about crime. And across America, a crime in Chicago. He clearly is trying to change the message to something else that benefits him."
She continued: "Can they not take the bait on crime, on transgender issues, specifically in Virginia? That's a big one that the Republican there is sort of trying to focus on instead of economic issues, focus solely on this promise that there was going to be a golden age, that prices were going to come down and and say to voters, we know you don't feel it. You have to elect someone new. It's their best message."
