On Friday afternoon, May 30, President Donald Trump held a media event in the White House Oval Office to mark the end of Tesla/SpaceX/X.com leader Elon Musk's work with his administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Trump publicly thanked Musk, who was present during the gathering and helped his administration orchestrate layoffs of countless federal government employees.

Conservative attorney George Conway discussed the event during a Sunday morning, June 1 appearance on MSNBC's "The Weekend" and commented that Trump and Musk are perfect for one another — as they both have controlling, narcissistic personalities.

Conway attacked Musk's contracts with the federal government as unethical, telling the MSNBC panel, "The conflict of interest — the conflicts of interest — are just absolutely tremendous here…. I mean, I don't know that Musk went in to do this precisely because he wanted all these contracts. Because he had a lot of them to begin with. But he felt persecuted by the Biden Administration, because every time he would do something that was questionable under the law, they would investigate him. He doesn't have that problem now."

Conway continued, "And the other big reason, as you say, was ego…. He's a narcissist like Trump, and he got to be high on himself, among other things…. I'm just talking about narcissistic highs, emotional highs."

The panel also featured Boston Globe columnist Kimberly Atkins Stohr.

When Politico's Eugene Daniels, one of the hosts of "The Weekend," asked Stohr what Musk "got out of" his work with DOGE for the Trump Administration, she replied, "Well, he got a lot of time in the spotlight."

Stohr continued, "He got what, I fear, is a lot of data about every single American — everybody in the country — through all of those DOGE moves…. And he got access to power. I mean, that was the big thing."
