'She can’t tell the truth': Ex-VA rep slams RNC chair over caring about 'power' more than Americans

During a Monday, November 13 conversation with CNN's Abby Phillip, former United States Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA) called out Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel over her refusal to stand up to ex-President Donald Trump for the sake of "the American people."

The former GOP lawmaker's criticism comes one day after the RNC chair condemned the party's current infighting after Republican presidential candidates Vivek Ramaswamy and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called the GOP a "party of losers" during the most recent debate.

"From a political perspective, we just came off of an election in your home state of Virginia where Republicans failed to meet, even their benchmarks," Phillip said to Riggleman. "Republicans generally have seen a net loss of seats in the House and the senate and governorships, all since Trump was elected. So, what will it take for Republicans, what will it take for the RNC chairwoman, whose job is to secure the electoral prospects of your party, to say that this is not worth it anymore?"

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

Riggleman replied, "It would take courage. It would take valuing the American people over a grifter and a sheister like Donald Trump. It would take actually caring about what happens in the future, instead of caring about polling, and fundraising and cross tabs, and that is the issue. Trump can't really win a whole lot at the local election level, but he can certainly help people lose. And he's counting on that. So, you have a party, that's really held hostage by somebody who understands that his power is in the base. Again, she has to do what she has to do in order to continue to be in power herself. So really, it's a simple fact that she cares more about a party with an 'R' behind it than she does about the American people, and it's also the fact that she can't tell the truth. She can't tell the truth how she feels, or she's not gonna be the actual party leader anymore. And that's really what it comes down to, Abby. It comes down to power. It comes down to money. It comes down to influence. And it's more important to people like Ronna McDaniel than the American people."
