'Who cares?' GOP candidate downplays bank he chairs getting 'money from foreign governents'

Eric Hovde, a Wisconsin Republican candidate for US Senate, doesn't think anything is wrong with the California bank he chairs receiving money from foreign governments, according to The Heartland Signal.
The news outlet on Monday shared a recent clip from Hovde's interview with the right-wing podcast, The Truth with Lisa Boothe, writing via X: "Two months after Heartland Signal reported that Wisconsin GOP Senate candidate Eric Hovde's bank has deposits from foreign banks and governments, he finally comments on a conservative podcast, saying no one cares: 'Who cares if a foreign government has a deposit in my bank?'"
Claiming "they're not an investor in my company," the GOP candidate can be heard telling Boothe: It's like $200,000, and my bank's over $3.5 billion. So it's insane that they're trying to cause confusion in somebody's mind. This is what you have to deal with when you're running for US Senate."

Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler replied to the clip, writing: "'Who cares if a foreign government a deposit in my bank?' is maybe not what you want to hear from a California banker running for Senate in Wisconsin."
In July, Heartland Signal reported, "Sunwest Bank, a commercial bank for entrepreneurs based in the West Coast worth $3 billion, began reporting foreign government deposits totaling nearly $250,000 in December 2023, coinciding with Hovde’s confirmation as a Senate candidate."
Democratic Party of Wisconsin rapid response director Arik Wolk earlier this year told NBC News "California bank owner Eric Hovde is running for Senate to impose his self-serving agenda, putting ultra rich people like himself ahead of middle-class Wisconsinites. California Hovde’s self-serving agenda and attacks on Wisconsinites’ freedoms are exactly why Wisconsinites will reject him and send him back to his $7 million California mansion."
