RadarOnline reports that abuse of the Duggar girls at the hands of family men was known widely enough for complete strangers to visit the house and make sure the girls were safe.
“People – strangers – would come to our house at random times to make sure there were locks on the doors and that everybody was sleeping where they were supposed to be sleeping. It was terrifying," claimed Jill Duggar in a recollection she shared in 2023.
According to the daughter of the controversial right-wing religious family, she and her sisters had locks on their bedroom doors while growing up. This adds a new level of prowling darkness to the news of brother Joseph Duggar, being arrested for child molestation.
Joseph Duggar has since been found guilty of “possessing and receiving” child sexual abuse material. He is currently serving 12 years.
Last month, Arkansas police arrested Kendra Duggar, Joseph Duggar’s wife, on an unrelated matter, while father Jim Bob Duggar caught new criticism after a clip resurfaced showing the reality TV father praising his son Joseph's good judgment.
"Joseph is somebody that could stand alone if there were situations that he needed to. We really believe he will do what's right in any given situation,” said Jim Bob in a statement that scratches harshly against news that the family allegedly had to bar its daughters’ doors for much of their lives.
Out Magazine columnist Josh Ackley alleged the Duggar men appear to be following a "pattern” of its "deeply patriarchal form of conservative Christianity" that may suggest a wider problem that is not unknown to religious sects.
Allegations against the famous “traditional values” family began in 2015, after Josh Duggar, Joseph's elder brother, was discovered to have abused five children, four of whom were his sisters.
