CNN data analyst Harry Enten says President Donald Trump is “already underwater on basically every single issue he ran on in 2024,” but his handling of the issue of convicted sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein is killing him with voters.
“The Epstein case is especially dreadful for him,” said Enten, pulling polls showing Trump ‘in the red’ on immigration, foreign policy, international trade and the economy.
“But look at the Epstein case,” said Enten. “He is 39 points below water on the Epstein case. His net approval is 39 points in the negative. My goodness gracious. What Donald Trump has been selling on the Epstein files and Epstein case, the American people, simply put, have not been buying at all.”
CNN anchor Sara Sidner asked Enten if things “have gotten better” for Trump since the release of new information on the case.
“There is just nobody in the electorate who is buying this. They do not like the way that the Trump administration has been handling this case,” Enten said, pointing out that Trump’s own party is helping to sink his overall numbers below his alleged lowest possible approval he could have thanks to his devoted following.
“How does that possibly happen? It's because of Republicans,” said Enten, citing GOP approval surveys. “Republicans who have approved of Trump's job as president is 87 percent. That is basically in line with the long-term average of 85, 90, and 95 percent.”
“But look at the Trump administration’s job on the Epstein case. Just 45 percent of Republicans — less than half of Republicans — are even buying what the administration is selling.”
“… I can tell you that the more that this case is in the news, the worse it is for Donald Trump, because, simply put, it is his worst issue by far.”
“We could be seeing a vote on this next week. This case is not going away anytime soon,” said CNN anchor Sara Sidner.
“It is not going away anytime soon,” agreed Enten. “And that is bad news, politically, for Donald John Trump.”
