Over 40 DOJ alumni endorse 'best choice' Harris — fearing Trump takeover

Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation's controversial far-right 900-page blueprint for a second Trump Administration, proposes a dramatic restructuring of the United States' federal government — including the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI.
Under Project 2025, critics say, DOJ would lose its independence from the federal government's executive branch and report only to the president.
According to NBC News reporters Ryan J. Reilly and Yamiche Alcindor, many current and former DOJ employees are applauding President Joe Biden's decision to end his reelection campaign — as they believe that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has a better chance of defeating Donald Trump in November and therefore, prevent DOJ from being taken over by Trump loyalists.

"Former and current Justice Department employees believe that a future President Harris, a former prosecutor, unlike Trump, would respect the norms that have been in place to ensure DOJ independence in the half-century since Watergate," Reilly and Alcindor explain. "Those fears of another Trump term are central to a new letter endorsing Harris, signed by more than 40 former Justice Department officials who served under presidents of both parties."
Those officials, according to the NBC News reporters, include former federal prosecutor John McKay, former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and former Deputy U.S. Attorneys General Sally Yates, David Ogden and Jamie Gorelick."
In their letter, they describe Harris as "the best choice to defeat Donald Trump and lead the nation."
