'Devoid of common decency': Analyst slams 'twisted logic' of Trump lawyers’ new filing
President Donald Trump speaks inside the Vehicle Assembly Building following the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the company's Crew Dragon spacecraft on NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission with NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley onboard, Saturday, May 30, 2020, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission is the first launch with astronauts of the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program. The test flight serves as an end-to-end demonstration of SpaceX’s crew transportation system. Behnken and Hurley launched at 3:22 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 30, from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. A new era of human spaceflight is set to begin as American astronauts once again launch on an American rocket from American soil to low-Earth orbit for the first time since the conclusion of the Space Shuttle Program in 2011. Former President Donald Trump's attorneys in a new filing Monday suggested the current hold on the MAGA hopeful's gag order issued by Judge Arthur Engoron during his ongoing New York civil fraud trial should be sustained.

During the latest episode of MSNBC's The Beat with Ari Melber, guest host Katie Phang spoke with legal analyst Neal Katyal, who slammed the move as "ridiculous."

Pointing to the fact "there is a buffet of Trump legal" to discuss now, Phang asked Katyal to explain his thoughts on this particular filing.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

"Katie we're like in Las Vegas with an all-you-can-eat buffet at every corner as far as I can tell," Katyal said. "I mean, look. some people celebrate Thanksgiving by being grateful. Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump celebrates it by continuing his hateful attacks. That's what we really saw in his latest filing. It's basically just an extension of the same twisted logic he's also used to defend himself, which is basically, 'I can't be blamed for the statements that my violence caused.'"

He continued, "And you know, this filing is so devoid of common decency, they can't even really manage to fake it in their court documents. it's clear they don't really care about all the threats this innocent law clerk is facing because of Trump's attacks. I mean, Katie you tweeted earlier today that this filing by the state had 275 single-space pages of threats and attacks against this law clerk. You know, the idea that you can just wash your hands of that — I find ridiculous. I think this gag order's likely to be sustained and maybe cut back a little bit, but I think it's going to be sustained."
