Former President Donald Trump — despite four indictments and a recent ruling deeming him unqualified for office under the 14th Amendment -- remains the 2024 Republican frontrunner.

During a conversation with MSNBC's Chris Hayes Tuesday, The Nation justice correspondent Elie Mystal suggested there's no hope for the GOP to rally behind any other candidate.

"The legal landscape of the presidency, which we spent a lot of time on — you cannot underestimate the degree to which that is remote to the vast majority of Americans," Hayes said. "That won't be remote anymore if he's on trial and if there is a conviction. How do you conceptualize that, and what that will do to the politics of the country?"

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

Mystal replied, "Nothing."

Haye asked, "You don't think it will matter?"

Mystal said, "I think that Trump supporters are in it to win it. I don't think they care. I don't think it's going to change any of their votes. I think the Republican party is so craven and dysfunctional that they don't have the strength anymore to oppose Trump — even a convicted Trump — even a multiple convicted Trump. They will still fall in line. So I think the only real question is whether or not the trial and the conviction reminds people that there's an actual crazy person running for president. And maybe we should put aside our inner party differences, and come together to beat the crazy guy, and then we can go back to fighting in our own little corner."
