Watch: George Conway hopes Nikki Haley won’t make a 'devil’s bargain' with Trump

When former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley ended her presidential campaign after Super Tuesday, she didn't endorse likely GOP nominee Donald Trump during her concession speech — although she didn't rule out the possibility of doing so at some point.
Never Trump conservative George Conway applauded Haley for not endorsing Trump during an appearance on a Bulwark's podcast but also stressed that he hopes she doesn't make a "Devil's bargain" in the weeks and months ahead.
Conway told host Sarah Longwell, "I thought she gave a very nice speech. And I didn't mind the bit at the end where she said: Donald Trump needs to earn our support. I'm OK with that…. if she realizes that he can't meet that bar…. If she sticks to that, he will never, ever be able to get her endorsement. That said, I don't know what she's going to be thinking three weeks from now."

Longwell commented that she disagreed with Haley critics who saw her speech as "duplicitous," asking Conway how she might use her following to influence Trump from a policy standpoint.
Conway told fellow Never Trumper Longwell, "I think she genuinely enjoyed being able to say more of what she thinks…. That said, maybe there's some kind of a bargain — a devil's bargain — that we're going to see in a few weeks. I hope not."
During the interview, Conway was vehemently critical of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky's) decision to endorse Trump — especially in light of his condemnation after the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol Building.
Conway told Longwell, "The thing that must have hurt the most for McConnell was that he knows the truth….. He knows better…. He's 82 years old…. Why not just go out and tell the truth for once?"
