'Shows how afraid he is': Christie claims Secret Service bars him from Trump campaign stops

Former New Jersey governor and 2024 GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie, who supported both ex-President Donald Trump's 2016 and 2020 campaigns, has become one of his harshest critics within the party.

The GOP hopeful told Fox News host Howard Kurtz in September that he planned to "follow" the former president "around the country" if he doesn't show up to any debates, according to The Hill.

"Well, if he doesn't do any of the debates, Howie, you know, we're going to give him another chance," Christie said. "I'm sure he's not coming to the Reagan debate. We'll give him another chance in Alabama. But if he doesn’t come there, then I’m going to follow him around the country. Wherever he goes, I'll go. And we'll wind up talking to each other one way or other. And he knows that's true."

During Monday night's episode of CNN's The Source with Kaitlan Collins, Collins referenced the ex-governor's September statement.

"Why haven't we seen you do so?" Collins asked.

Christie replied, "I tried. I tried in New Hampshire. I was shut out of the building in New Hampshire the day he registered for the ballot. His campaign closed the entire statehouse, along with the Secret Service, and said only people invited by the Trump campaign could go into the building. So, you know, unless you're willing to kiss his rear end, you can't get anywhere near him. And that just shows how afraid he is of seeing me face to face and confronting his record and his failure on behalf of the people of this country. So, I'm going to keep trying. But, you know, he and his campaign use the Secret Service to keep people away."
