Campaign to remove Trump from Hollywood Walk of Fame gains momentum
2024 presidential runner Donald Trump is among the more than 2700 celebrities who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But the Los Angeles Times and Axios are reporting that if some of Trump's critics in Los Angeles have their way, that star will be removed.
Axios' Jacob Knutson reports that a petition "calling on the Los Angeles City Council to remove Trump's star" has "so far received over 3800 signatures." If the Hollywood Hills resident behind the petition, Andrew Rudick, is successful, Trump would be the first person whose star was removed from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Rudick told The Guardian, "It cannot be this hard. This man attempted a coup against the United States, and yet, we continue to honor him.… How are we the voters supposed to have faith in the city council to deal with any real level of challenge if they can't get this done?"

The Hollywood Walk of Fame was established in 1960 and runs mostly along Hollywood Boulevard from Gower Street in the east to La Brea Avenue in the west. Everyone from Lana Turner to Joe Pesci to the King of Pop Michael Jackson has a star.
Los Angeles City Councilman Bob Blumenfield told the Los Angeles Times he would vote in favor of the removal of Trump's star, which, Knutson notes, was added in 2007 in part because of his work hosting the hit reality show "The Apprentice."
"His star has been destroyed and vandalized multiple times since the 2016 election, including being smashed with a pickaxe in 2018," Knutson notes. "Each time, the star was replaced or restored."
