Speaking at the NATO Summit, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed his opposition to war-torn Ukraine joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

And he pushed back against the idea that supporting Ukraine is an expression of democratic values.

Hegseth told reporters, "We can talk all we want about values. Values are important. But you can't shoot values."

The defense secretary continued, "You can't shoot flags, and you can't shoot strong speeches. There is no replacement for hard power."

Using a very different tone from the Biden Administration, Hegseth told reporters, "In some cases, there's nothing like hard power."

Bluesky users were quick to weigh in, including former Obama Administration official Eric Columbus — who sarcastically posted, "Vodka, however…."

Bluesky user Jeanne Azarovitz — who mockingly posted, "Can I have some dressing with that word salad?"
