'Begging' GOP reps ask moderate Dems to rescue McCarthy: report

United States Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) announced Sunday, October 1 that he would move forward this week with a motion to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
Ahead of Congress' vote on whether Speaker McCarthy will be ousted on Tuesday, October 3, NBC reports several Democratic House members have been asked by their GOP colleagues to allow the California congressman to keep his leadership role.

The GOP leaders told reporters early Tuesday, "If five Republicans go with Democrats, then I'm out," meaning if all Democrats vote against him in a vote schedule for Tuesday afternoon, and just five Republicans join them, he will lose his job."
ABC News' Rachel Scott told McCarthy his removal "looks likely."
The speaker replied, "Probably so."
