U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was among the dissenters in the abortion-related case Moyle v. the United States. And according to legal journalist Mark Joseph Stern, a book that Alito mentioned in his opinion speaks volumes about his political outlook.

The far-right book that Alito mentioned is Ramesh Ponnuru's "The Party of Death: The Democrats, the Media, the Courts, and the Disregard for Human Life," published in 2006.

In a June 27 post on X (formerly Twitter),University of Buffalo law professor Manoj Mate noted that Alito, in Moyle, "manages to work in" a reference to Ponnuru's book.

Stern, in a July 3 tweet, responds, "Just noticed this rather wild citation in Alito's opinion. The book's full title is The Party of Death: The Democrats, the Media, the Courts and the Disregard for Human Life — in case you wonder how Alito feels about the Democratic Party and the press."

2006 was also the year in which President George W. Bush appointed Alito to the High Court following Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement.

That appointment helped push the Court to the far right.

While Ronald Reagan appointee O'Connor was a moderate conservative, Alito is a far-right social conservative who has often allied himself with Justice Clarence Thomas and has been openly critical of abortion and gay rights.
