Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic congressional candidate in New York’s 14th district, on Sunday fired back at Newsmax host John Cardillo for implying she was obfuscating her background—and falsely claiming she attended and Ivy League university.”

Cardillo posted a tweet on Sunday that claimed Ocasio-Cortez’s childhood was “a far cry from the Bronx hood upbringing she’s selling,” along with a photo of a Yorktown Heights home.

“This is the Yorktown Heights (very nice area) home @Ocasio2018 grew up in before going off to Ivy League Brown University,” Cardillo wrote.

“Hey John,” Ocasio-Cortez replied. “I didn’t go to Brown or the Ivy League. I went to BU. Try Google.”

Ocasio-Cortez, a Democratic Socialist, pulled off a stunning upset against Rep. Joe Crowley, the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives. Ocasio-Cortez ran on a platform that includes single payer healthcare, fully funded public schools and the abolition of ICE.
