'Cowardly': Adam Schiff blasts DeSantis for attempt to 'compete with Donald Trump on Trump’s own turf'

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who led former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial, criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for comments pertaining to Trump's indictment, Politico reports.
Earlier this week, DeSantis called the New York grand jury indictment of the former president "un-American," and confirmed the sunshine state "will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda."
According to Politico, George Soros is known as "a prominent Democratic donor who helped fund the Color of Change PAC, which supported" Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg's campaign.
During a Sunday interview with MSNBC host, Jen Psaki, the California congressman asserted the governor "certainly knows better about the law. He knows what his obligation is to extradite someone who is accused of crime in another state."
Schiff emphasized, "This is kind of a cowardly action by Ron DeSantis to try to compete with Donald Trump on Trump’s own turf."
The Democratic lawmaker added the potential 2024 GOP candidate will "say anything, do anything in hopes of becoming president."
DeSantis is expected to announce his bid for presidency in May.
Axios reports, following Trump's indictment, Schiff noted "in a statement, 'this step, while unprecedented, is also deeply and fundamentally necessary to preserve the rule of law.'"
