'Be a man': A 9/11 first responder explains how Kevin McCarthy 'can fix' the House GOP George Santos debacle

A September 11 first responder is urging House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to take proper action again George Santos, Huffpost reports.
In a recent CNN interview with Anderson Cooper, John Feal shared his thoughts and concerns around McCarthy’s ability as Speaker to take action against Santos.
Feal mentioned that CNN vetted him “more for this interview” than “Santos was vetted” for Congress, to which Cooper replied, “it’s a failure on so many levels, it’s unbelievable.”

AlterNet reported that the congressman has “on multiple occasions” said that one or both of his parents were inside the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Additionally, he asserted that his mother died 15 years later as a result of the dust circulating the air long after the attack.
Organizations that support Sept. 11 victims confirmed that they have no proof of Santos’ mother receiving medical care, and a recent investigation published by The Forward not only confirmed that Santos’ mother did not die as a result of the attack, but she also was never employed at the World Trade Center.
During the segment, Cooper asked Feal, “Did you ever think we would be at a place, in this day and age, where a sitting member of Congress can lie about a personal connection to 9/11 and it not be an instant of people saying ‘Ok, enough'?"
The first responder, who lost a foot while repairing damage in the days following the attack, said from his recollection years ago, there were “blue dog Democrats and moderate Republican conversations.”
“Now, they're just ‘bat blank’ crazy,” Feal said. “[McCarthy] is an example of what’s wrong with Congress.”

When asked about whether he knew Santos lied on his resume, McCarthy insisted he “didn’t know about it until a later date.” In addition, the House Speaker has also said that Santos will receive House committee assignments just like other members.
In firm disagreement with McCarthy’s claim, Feal told Cooper, “Kevin McCarthy can easily fix this.”
Then, Feal aimed his next words directly at McCarthy. “Kevin, if you’re watching and if you’re listening, be a man,” he said.
He continued, “Man up. Show the leadership that you were voted in for and do the right thing. This man is leaving a trail of pain behind him and nobody’s doing anything about it.”
