In Booneville, Mississippi, Mayor Chris Lindley is facing a misdemeanor assault charge after allegedly hitting a teenager during an incident involving a dirt bike.

WLBT-TV Channel 3, an NBC affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi, reports that Lindley was arrested on Tuesday, April 26. The altercation, according to WLBT, occurred on April 11, when a teenage boy rode his dirt bike to football practice at West Side Park in Booneville.

The youth, WLBT reports, “let a friend ride the bike up and down the fence line.” And Lindley, a Republican, wanted to know who the bike belonged to.

“The teen owner of the bike said that it was his and that he would move it,” according to WLBT. “The teen said, in his statement, that while moving the bike, the mayor shoved him over. After doing this, the mayor hopped on the bike and fell over. After falling over, the mayor got up and hit the owner of the bike in the back of the head three times.”

Booneville is in Prentiss County in the northern part of Mississippi, and a report from the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office, according to WLBT, “concludes by saying Mayor Lindley told the boys the cops were coming and then walked away.”

Lindley was reelected as mayor of Booneville in 2021, defeating independent challenger C.J. Lisa McCoy. He is now serving his second term.
