Yesterday, propagandists on Russian state television were showboating about going to war with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization after President Vladimir Putin's invading forces (somehow recoup their losses and) defeat Ukraine.

"We'll be grinding up NATO's war machine as well as citizens of NATO countries when this operation concludes. NATO will have to ask itself, 'do we have what we need to defend ourselves? Do we have the people to defend ourselves?'" host Vladimir Solovyov mused on Russia 1.

The translated video was posted to Twitter by Julia Davis, The Daily Beast's resident Russia expert and founder of the Russian Media Monitor, which tracks the Kremlin's disinformation.

Solovyov is one of Putin's most prominent mouthpieces, proudly perpetuating the lies that the Kremlin employs to brainwash the Russian people (such as that Putin's genocide in Ukraine is about protecting Russia from neo-Nazis). Solovyov is far from a solo actor, however, and his rhetoric is nonunique among Moscow's media manipulators.

But the doomsday bluster permeating Russian airwaves is nonetheless intensifying, primarily because Putin's gambit in Ukraine has been a disaster. Consequently, Russia waving its nuclear stick around is the only card that it has to play.

On Thursday, panelists on Russia 1 were flaunting their military's Wednesday test of the Sarmat Intercontinental Ballistic Missile and playfully snickering about obliterating a major American city with it. The Sarmat or Satan II ICBM is capable of carrying more than 10 atomic warheads and can, according to Putin, completely evade Western air defenses. While the exercise itself was not interpreted by the West as a direct threat, Putin's cheerleaders were nevertheless thrilled to turn it into one.

"Americans don't have this kind of rockets and never had them. What's attractive about the South Pole – we know right away where to send it via the North Pole, or the South Pole – we have only one target, the continental territory of the United States," said the aging male host.

"If this rocket ends up over there, in the worst-case scenario, what kinds of objects can it destroy? What size of a territory?" his female colleague asked.

Putin's pale-haired puppet only had one target in mind.

"If 7.5 megatons will be delivered to the territory of our so-called partner – the word 'partner' is very important – then objects like the city of New York, a good city, but it would be gone," he said.

"Completely gone with one rocket," the other male host interjected.

"Yes of course. Completely, I mean completely," the first man continued, although he added that "it's better if we don't. Americans always feared our heavy rockets."
