Stacey Abrams makes a prophetic cameo in 'Star Trek: Discovery' season 4 finale

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams has not been shy about her political aspirations. Currently, she is seeking to unseat her state's Republican Governor Brian Kemp, to whom she narrowly lost in 2018. Then, in May of last year, Abrams said that she "absolutely" hopes to one day become president of the United States.
If Abrams manages to defeat Kemp in November's contest, she would be the first Black female governor in American history.
On Wednesday night, Star Trek: Discovery fans were gifted with a glimpse of Abrams' world leader vibe when she made a surprise cameo appearance as the 32nd century President of United Earth in the show's fourth season finale.
“Nothing to discuss,” Abrams says to Laira Rillak, the president of the United Federation of Planets. “United Earth is ready right now to rejoin the Federation, and nothing could make me happier than to say those words."
Abrams' stint had a profound effect on the cast.
“I’m still floored when I think about Stacey gracing us with her presence in our Season 4 finale,” actress Sonequa Martin-Green, who portrays USS Discovery Captain Michael Burnham, told Deadspin. “We spent so much of our time fanning out and pretending to be cool in her midst."
Abrams is "a legend in the making and a civil hero, and she was an absolute delight to work with. She wowed us with her charm, humility, and generosity, and she whipped out some acting chops too!” Martin-Green continued, adding that “it was an honor for me as a Black woman to stand with her in the story. It’s an experience I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”
But Martin-Green was not the only castmember to gush over working with Abrams.
Michelle Paradise, a writer and producer of Discovery, said in an interview with IndieWire that “honestly, the number of times I’ve seen the episode, every time I see her face, I’m like, ‘Wow, that really happened. That’s awesome.'"
