Trump’s 'aggressive' pro-vaccine message is a calculated effort to 'win back the suburbs': MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough

Former President Donald Trump, founder and leader of the MAGA movement, is being slammed by some of his supporters for urging Americans to get vaccinated for COVID-19. The Daily Wire’s Candace Owens is resorting to ageism, describing the 75-year-old Trump as old and technologically behind the times — while Infowars’ Alex Jones called Trump “one of the most evil men who ever lived.” Trump, however, is showing no signs of backing down from his pro-vaccine message. And according to Never Trump conservative Joe Scarborough, Trump is now “aggressively defending the vaccines” as part of a concerted effort to “win back the suburbs.”

During a Monday, December 27 broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Scarborough told co-host Mika Brzezinski, Politico’s Jonathan Lemire (who hosts MSNBC’s “Way Too Early”) and the Rev. Al Sharpton (who hosts MSNBC’s “Politics Nation”), “It seems that he’s looking back, and maybe he’s saying, ‘Wait a second, I embraced these fringe people on the virus, on these conspiracy theories — and I lost. I lost the suburbs, I lost in places that Republicans won….' If you’re thinking that this is Mr. Magoo, just going from one board to another, stumbling along, you’re underestimating Donald Trump…. This is a calculation.”

Scarborough continued, “And when he’s attacked by Candace Owens and he’s attacked by the other guy (Alex Jones), that plays right into his triangulation plan. Dick Morris is probably giving him a standing ovation over at Newsmax.”

Lemire, a former Associated Press reporter who now divides his time between MSNBC and Politico, commented that when Owens recently interviewed Trump and pushed “vaccines are bad” claims, Trump wasn’t swayed a bit and “stayed on message” with pro-vaccine arguments.

Lemire commented, “Will he stay with this? Even though the Alex Joneses, the Candace Owens, who represent a portion — small — but still, a portion of his supporters, will he stay with it despite their pushback? At least so far, he has.”
