Jury reaches verdict in Arbery murder case — finds 3 killers guilty on multiple murder counts

A jury has reached a verdict in the murder trial of the three Georgia men facing murder charges in the death of Ahmaud Arbery, an Black man who they confronted and chased while he was jogging.

Defendant Travis McMichael, who shot and killed the unarmed Arbery at point-blank range, has been found guilty on multiple counts, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and false imprisonment. And fellow defendant Gregory McMichael was found guilty on multiple charges as well, while defendant William R. Bryan was found not guilty of malice murder, not guilty on one count of felony murder but guilty on multiple counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit a felony.

During the trial, the defendants claimed they believed that Arbery was committing a crime when they chased after him.

The defense team tried to convince jurors that Travis McMichael believed he was acting in self-defense and felt threatened. But in the end, the jury did not believe that claim.
