Trump’s ‘inspection’ excuse for White House bunker visit inspires ridicule and mockery
C-SPAN

President Donald Trump has mocked former Vice President Joe Biden for spending a lot of time in his basement during the coronavirus pandemic. And Trump, in light of all his “Biden in the basement” comments, has drawn a lot of ridicule over reports that he was in the White House’s underground bunker on Friday night, May 29 — only to draw even more ridicule after offering a lame explanation for it.

Trump claimed that he only went to the bunker “two and a half times” for a Friday-night inspection and told Fox News that he wasn’t in the bunker to protect himself from possible intruders in Washington, D.C. — which has been rocked by huge “Justice for George Floyd” protests. And Twitter users have been mocking Trump unmercifully for his explanation.

@IvaARogers posted, “Like that time my husband and his buddies went to a strip club, they were only there for an inspection.” And @NotATweeter16 wrote, “Next time your spouse catches you cheating, you can just say: ‘I may have been between someone else’s legs, but it was ‘more for an inspection’ and ‘I was there for a tiny, short little period of time.’”

@Grudging1 wrote, “He's such an enormous baby it's absurd,” while @Saltlifeismine scoffed, “’An inspection’: seriously, he’s going with that lie??” And @VirtualMittens tweeted, “Lots of angry people outside.... maybe I'll just mosey on down to the bunker and make sure we have enough gummy bears and diet coke for the apocalypse.”

@RageinNY asked, “If it remains unused why does it need so many inspections?” And Twitter user Beth Hanson, @ @Erdos_4, inquired, “Why would he need to inspect it? What expertise does he have in ‘bunker knowing?’”
