Trump gets brutally mocked over idea for a new civics exam for immigrants: ‘He can’t pass a high school English test’

During a recent speech, President Donald Trump outlined his plans for changes to immigration policy in the United States. One of the things he proposed is a civics exam before immigrants come to the U.S., and that proposal was met with ridicule and mockery on Twitter because of the source.
“To promote integration, assimilation and national unity,” Trump declared during his speech, “future immigrants will be required to learn English and to pass a civics exam prior to admission.”
Trump’s civics exam idea is ironic in light the repeated demonstrations of how little he knows about policy and the American system of governance.

On Twitter, Vox’s Matthew Yglesias scoffed, “I would love to see Trump try to pass a civics exam”—and Twitter user Constantin Gurdgiev responded, “Never mind civics exam, he can’t pass a high school English test.”
Meanwhile, attorney Reza Shaeri tweeted that in Trump’s case, he would “settle for an English exam.” Twitter user @itsJeffTiedrich attacked Trump’s supporters, posting, “Not one of Trump’s dimwitted worshipers could pass a civics exam.” And Lynne Jackier had a proposal: “Let’s require anyone who wants to be president to learn English and pass a civics test.”
@HowardA_Esq found Trump’s proposed English proficiency requirement ironic, tweeting, “How much do you want to bet Trump can’t pass the English portion of the exam?”
