VIDEO: Jon Stewart Skewers Corrupt Virginia Politician for Accepting Bribes
Former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen are on trial for public corruption after accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts from a wealthy local businessman. Jonnie Williams admitted he gave the couple gifts in exchange for promoting Anatabloc, a tobacco-based “wonder cure” he invented.
In last night’s segment “The Giving Spree,” Jon Stewart chronicled just how complicit the McDonnells were in promoting Williams’ bogus drug. Beyond organizing meetings with Williams and top state officials and encouraging public universities to research ingredients in the drug, Maureen McDonnell pitched Ann Romney, who has multiple sclerosis, on the uses of Anatabloc as a cure for MS.
As a cure for her hypocrisy, Stewart prescribed his own invented medication: Forgetulex, an “herbal supplement guaranteed to wipe out the memory of the time you trivialized a woman’s debilitating, incurable disease so that a wacked-out supplement huckster would buy you a watch.” Check out the full segment below.
