Most Unhealthy Restaurant Meals (and Not From Fast Food)
January 09, 2010Personal Health
We've definitely covered many of the fast food industry's most heinous concoctions but McDonald and friends aren't the only culprits. There is so much unhealthy food being dished out in this country, it's hard to keep up. I just caught this Yahoo post today about restaurant meals over 1,000 calories and some of them were so startlingly bad, it seemed worth a mention.
You can read the full post here, but I've pulled out some highlights:
- Chili's Buffalo Chicken Fajitas (w/o tortillas OR fixings): 1,110 calories & 78g fat! Buffalo chicken is pretty high in calories, being deep-fried and drenched in sauce. Factor in blue cheese, bacon bits, and ranch dressing? Even worse. Add an oily skillet of fajita veggies? Eeeeks. That gets you the calorie count you see above... and it ain't pretty. But THEN factor in all the fajita fixings and tortillas! That entire meal will total 1,720 calories and over 100g fat.
- The Cheesecake Factory Fried Macaroni and Cheese: 1,528 calories & 63g saturated fat! Four balls of crumb-coated mac 'n cheese sitting in a pool of creamy marinara sauce. Really? That's about 380 calories for one saucy orb of fried cheesy pasta. And take a second look at the numbers -- that's 63 grams of SATURATED fat. Because the Cheesecake people won't give the total fat count yet. (That makes us sad.)
- Domino's Pizza Pasta in a Bread Bowl, Chicken Alfredo: 1,400 calories & 50g fat!!! We're horrified. We're appalled. WHOSE idea was it to take a pasta dish drenched in cream sauce and dump it into a loaf of bread?! This is for the hall of shame, people.
These sound pretty bad, anyone know any worse ones? It's a scary world out there in chain restaurants. Let's all do ourselves a favor and cook from home tonight.
