Taking the TV out of White House press briefings

News & Politics
Crooks and Liars has the video of new Bush Chief of Staff Josh Bolten hinting that the White House may do away with televising the White House press briefings.
Wallace: Some people suggest that a way to improve relations with the press, would be to end the televising of the press briefings and all the posturing by members of the WH press corps...
Bolten: It's worth considering. I think that will be [Press Secretary] Tony Snow's first test to see what kind of power player he really is...My guess is in the short run it would hurt them. The judgement would be as we do in all things is look at the long run and see whether it's helpful in the long run...
Snap, just like that? I don't think the footage editors at the Daily Show will be pleased. But then, it's things like the Daily Show -- and also reality, I suppose -- that have pushed the White House folks to think on such stark terms.
