Stay the course in Viet... er, Iraq

News & Politics

After having read an article from a magazine comparing Vietnam and Iraq, Orrin Hatch was apparently so unconvinced he hopped onto Fox News and made this (mis)statement, confusing the two: "The Democratic Party seems to be taken over by the Michael Moore contingent in their attitude toward Vietnam, and they continually call for a withdrawal of troops at a time when we haven't finished the job..."

Would that be the Michael Moore who was right all along? The one who opposed this miserable war? The Murtha/Moore Democrats might be a better moniker.

But here's what makes me nervous. According to the Salt Lake Tribune the Congressional Quarterly's transcript had "corrected" Hatch's "mistake" and replaced Vietnam with Iraq. Just a couple of weeks ago the CQ refused to lie for the administration and alter its transcript. How are these things made? How often are they changed? Did we just catch it this once...
