Internet Blows Up Over Photo of Ted Cruz Staring at His Opponent's Face: 'Everyone Is Obsessed with Beto O'Rourke'

A tweet with two photos of Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) slouched down in an airplane seat, staring at a photo of his Democratic challenger, Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX), is blowing up on social media.

CNN's Andrew Kaczynski tweeted the photos, crediting Politico Playbook, a daily email newsletter from Politico.

Per Politico: Ted Cruz was spotted on his phone on a flight back from DC looking at a photo of Beto O'Rourke.

It's unclear if the photo Senator Cruz is looking at is part of an article or if it's just a photo of Rep. O'Rourke, or when the photo of the embattled Texas Senator was taken. Cruz was chased out of a DC restaurant Monday night by anti-Kavanaugh protestors. Cruz and the Supreme Court nominee have been friends for decades.

Cruz was also mocked last week for posting video of Rep. O'Rourke delivering a rousing speech talking about the killing of Botham Shem Jean, a Black man shot to death in his own apartment by a white police officer. The video was well-received, and many wondered why Cruz was effectively campaigning for O'Rourke.

Tuesday morning, many on Twitter had a good time mocking the Texas Senator, whose race in deep red Texas is now rated a "tossup," for the photo of him staring at his competitor. Others pointed to the faces of the passengers behind Cruz. And some expressed sympathy for the candidate a top White House aide suggested might lose his re-election bid for being unlikeable.
