GOP Senator: John McCain 'Partially To Blame' For Trump Not Keeping White House Flag At Half-Staff

President Donald Trump caused outrage on Monday morning when he allowed the White House flag to be raised to full-mast, despite the fact that flags all over D.C. were still at half-mast in honor of the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who succumbed to brain cancer on Saturday night. It was a move broadly seen as indefensible.

The New McCarthyism: How the Fear of Socialism Fuels America's Climate Denial

In the late 1970s, scientists first came to a consensus that global warming was likely to result from increasing greenhouse gases released by the burning of fossil fuels. This idea had been around since the turn of the century, but the development of computer models made it possible to make quantitative predictions. Almost immediately, a small group of politically connected and conservative scientists began to question this consensus. As empirical scientific data mounted up, their attacks became more unprincipled. These conservative scientists used data selectively and often misrepresented the conclusions of many studies undertaken by the scientific community.

Former Republican: How the GOP Turned Into a Racket Ripping Off Vulnerable Americans

As with many religions, political parties have a tendency to start as a movement, transform into a business, and finally degenerate into a racket designed to fleece the yokels. One organization which has gone out of its way to illustrate this evolution is the Republican Party. And it has done so with a national scope and fundraising apparatus that would have made Jimmy Swaggart or Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker mute with awe.

By "Republican Party" I mean both the formal party and its extended apparat: talk radio and the Fox News empire, pressure groups like the Family Research Council, allegedly "educational" 501(c)3 organizations like the Heritage Foundation, direct mail outfits descended from the original Richard Viguerie mother ship, polling firms like Rasmussen's, and the Tea Party itself (the latter nevertheless asserts its non-affiliation with the GOP despite its having sponsored the Florida Republican presidential candidates' debate in 2011).
