Mitch McConnell shares GOP’s 'worst nightmare' scenario of a Harris-Walz White House

Mitch McConnell is scared a Kamala Harris presidency would spell disaster for the Republican party, prognosticating that a Democratic presidency would result in the demise of the filibuster and a liberal packing of the Supreme Court.

“Let's assume our worst nightmare – the Democrats went to the White House, the House, the Senate,” McConnell said during a speech to lawmakers in Louisville, Kentucky, Spectrum reports. “The first thing they'll do is get rid of the [Senate] filibuster. Second, you'll have two new states: D.C., Puerto Rico. That's four new Democratic senators in perpetuity."

“If they get those two new states and pack the Supreme Court, they'll get what they want," McConnell continued. "By the way, on packing the Supreme Court ... you may know this already. It's unconstitutional."

McConnell’s remarks come as polling shows a tightening race between Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Harris, especially in battleground states, where Trump’s lead has shrunk from 3.5 percent to 1 percent after Harris announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walzas her running mate.

During his speech, Spectrum reports that McConnell called the Walz-Harris ticket “the far left of the Democratic Party.”

“And by the way, that’s most Democrats today,” McConnell said, according to Spectrum.

'Same old show': Harris claps back at 'divisive' Trump’s attack on her racial identity

Kamala Harris took the high road in addressing Donald Trump’s attack on her racial identity Wednesday, avoiding any low blows while addressing a group of Black sorority members in Houston Wednesday.

Harris took the stage Wednesday just hours after Trump gave a chaotic interview at a conference for Black journalists in Chicago, where he claimed that “all of a sudden she made a turn and she became a Black person.”

At the event for Black sorority Sigma Gamma Rho, Harris mostly stuck to her policy message during her event in Houston Wednesday night, but did respond to Trump’s remarks.

“It was the same old show,” Harris said. “The divisiveness and the disrespect. Let me just say the American people deserve better.”

She went on to say the nation needs a leader “who does not respond with hostility and anger when confronted with the facts,” and “who understands that our differences do not divide; they are an essential source of our strength.”

Harris characterized her presidential campaign against Trump as a fight for the future versus “those that are trying to take us backward.”

With the election just over 3 months away, Harris emphasized that in order to win, Democrats need to take action.

“When we organize, mountains move,” Harris said. “When we mobilize, nations change. And when we vote, we make history.”

'Just looks dumb': Fox News host slams Louisiana Republican for calling Harris 'ding-dong'

Fox News host Neil Cavuto pushed back on Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy’s attack on Vice President Kamala Harris as a “ding-dong” and a “loon” Monday, questioning if name-calling could backfire on the GOP.

Kennedy joined Cavuto for his afternoon broadcast to share his thoughts on President Joe Biden’s planned overhaul of the Supreme Court, which he said will be “as dead as Woodrow Wilson,” when it gets to Washington. He continued with a tirade that alleged Harris is actually behind the court reform package as a sort-of vendetta against the court for dismantling Roe V. Wade.

He then went on to ridicule her laugh and saying polling shows Americans think Harris is “a bit of a ding dong,” and a member of the “loon wing of the Democratic party.”

Cavuto wasn’t buying it.

“I’m wondering if the strategy to focus on her laugh or the former president calling her nasty and crazy, really promotes that push to show she’s not up to the job. Does it look petty?”Does it say to judge her on this level looks like a strategy that could backfire on Republicans?” Cavuto said. “By all means get her on the issues… but to focus on this other stuff just looks dumb.”

The rebuke seemed to ruffle Kennedy’s feathers more than little. He went on the defensive, doubling down on his remarks to the Fox News host.

“I’m sorry if that offends you Neil, but I’m just telling you what the people of America…” Kennedy said.

Cavuto interrupted him.

“I’m just telling you what the polls are showing right now,” Cavuto said, referring to polls that put Harris and Donald Trump in a dead heat among voters. “I guess I’m saying all the problems and calling her a loon and all that… ”

“Well I didn’t call her a loon, you’re putting words in my mouth!” Kennedy responded with anger. “She’s a member of the loon wing of the Democratic party.”

“Well what's the difference between the loon wing and being a loon?” Cavuto said. “She is running even with Trump and I’m just wondering about the approach you're taking – it’s going to come back to bite your heinies, isn’t it?”

Cavuto asserted that such attacks may alienate female voters and minorities.

“Well let me say it again. The vice president is a candidate for president of the United States. I don’t care about her gender, maybe you do Neil, but I don’t. I don’t care about her race. I care about her…” Kennedy said, clearly frustrated, as Cavuto cut him off.

“Then why call her a ding dong?” Cavuto pressed.

Kennedy backed up saying he was just “telling you what the polling shows. And I’ll be glad to sit down with you and walk you through the polls.”

“Please do, because I never know when it's constructive to call people names,” Cavuto said.

George Conway launches ‘Anti-Psychopath PAC’ focusing on Trump’s mental health

George Conway, the recently divorced ex-husband of former Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway, has launched a new political action committee aimed at preventing Donald Trump from returning to the White House in 2024.

The Anti-Psychopath PAC, as it's called, will work to "highlight the existential threat Donald Trump poses to democracy and remind voters of the former president's mental unfitness for office."

Conway, a retired lawyer, became an outspoken critic of Trump while his wife served as a senior counselor in the Trump White House. Since their divorce, he has doubled down on his efforts to take down the former president, whom he views as mentally unstable and unfit to lead the nation again.

"The failure to treat Trump's behavior as pathological has led the media and the country, perversely, to treat it as normal," Conway said in an interview explaining the rationale behind the Anti-Psychopath PAC. "And that's a big reason why we're seeing the double standard being applied to the candidates today."

By Conway's assessment, Trump's concerning mental state and frequent bouts of erratic behavior have been brushed aside and normalized by the press and public. He hopes the new PAC can shift the narrative by rigorously scrutinizing Trump's psychology and fitness for office to the same degree as President Biden's.

To drive home his point about Trump's legal jeopardy, Conway has seeded the Anti-Psychopath PAC with a symbolic $343,434.34 - representing the 34 felony counts the former president was convicted of earlier this year in a New York court.

Strategists say Biden has a big opportunity to upstage Trump’s convention speech

President Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race seems all but inevitable amid mounting pressure from party leaders, and some experts want to see him do it right before Donald Trump takes to the Republican National Convention stage tonight to steal the limelight.

Trump is scheduled to give the RNC keynote address shortly after 9 p.m. and several experts say that could be the perfect time for Biden to make the big announcement.

George State University law professor Anthony Michael Kreis wrote on X that Biden would be “an absolute icon,” if he bowed out right before Trump’s speech begins.

Writer Parker Molloy says preempting Trump’s speech would, “just render the entire speech outdated right before he gives it.”

“If Biden's going to drop out, he should 100% do it like 5 minutes before Trump speaks tonight,” Molloy wrote on X.

National Review writer Jeff Blehar hoped it would happen smack dab in the middle of Trump’s speech.

“Biden choosing to officially drop out during the middle of Trump's speech would be the revenge Trump deserves for planning in advance to run 90 minutes long,” Blehar wrote on X.

“May as well make an impact instead of doing it on a random slow news day,” wrote another X user.

FBI was behind Trump assassination attempt: Republican congressman

Republican Colorado Rep. Scott Bottoms told parishioners at his church Sunday that the FBI was responsible for the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, 9News reports.

“I believe it's the FBI,” Bottoms, who had no evidence to back up his claim, said from the church pulpit, according to 9News. “I’m not talking about the Democratic Party. I’m talking about the people that are controlling our country. The people that have been controlling the FBI, controlling the State Department.”

Bottoms is the pastor at the Church of Briargate in Colorado Springs and is notorious for espousing Q-Anon conspiracy theories and extremist far-right rhetoric. He was elected to represent Colorado Springs in 2022.

Bottoms said Sunday the reason Trump survived the attack is because God protected the former president, 9News reports, and that there will not be an election in November unless Trump is dead. His claims were without any evidence.

“This is just the beginning,” Bottoms said. “They need that man dead.”

Bottoms previously sparked controversy by claiming the FBI facilitated the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and by calling his fellow lawmakers “pedophiles,” according to Colorado Politics.

Jack Smith officially challenges Cannon’s dismissal of Trump classified document case

Special Counsel Jack Smith Wednesday filed his appeal after Florida federal court Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed his classified documents case against former President Donald Trump, court records show.

The two-page ruling simply states Smith means to take Cannon's controversial ruling to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

This move comes just two days after Cannon tossed the Espionage Acts violations case against Trump on the grounds that Smith was not properly appointed as special counsel.

Trump stood accused of illegally hoarding classified documents at his Florida social club Mar-a-Lago in boxes stacked haphazardly in a ballroom, bathroom and shower, among other places.

Cannon, a Trump appointee, has been long criticized for showing deference to Trump. Her ruling Monday spurred hopes that the case could be transferred to another judge.

This was one of four criminal cases brought against Trump, convicted in Manhattan of falsifying business records earlier this year.

He also faces election racketeering and interference charges in Georgia and Washington D.C.
