Breaking: Schumer 'told Biden it’s time to drop out'

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reportedly told President Joe Biden that he should drop out of the presidential race on Saturday, ABC News reports.

At a one-on-one meeting Saturday, "Schumer forcefully made the case that it would be better for Biden, better for the Democratic party, and better for the country if he were to bow out."

Schumer issued a statement to Raw Story shortly after the story was published. It was, in political terms, a non-denial denial.

"Unless ABC’s source is Senator Chuck Schumer or President Joe Biden the reporting is idle speculation. Leader Schumer conveyed the views of his caucus directly to President Biden on Saturday," a spokesman for Schumer said.

In addition to the reporting about Schumer Wednesday, California Congressman Adam Schiff formally called on Joe Biden to quit his presidential campaign due to “serious concerns” the president won’t be able to beat Donald Trump a second time.

“A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the president can defeat Donald Trump in November,” Schiff, a top House Democrat running for Senate, said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

While praising Biden for a “lifetime of service” Schiff told the Los Angeles Times he believes its time for the 81-year-old president to “pass the torch.”

Schiff met privately with donors over the weekend and had previously said that if Biden remained the party nominee, it could not only cost Democrats the presidency but also races down the ballot. With Schiff, the number of Democrats in the House calling for Biden to drop out of the race is more than 20.

Watch: Trump gunman caught on video before shooting starts

A video acquired by the tabloid website TMZ appears to show the suspected gunman who shot at former President Donald Trump before the shooting, and then shows the suspect again after he was killed by Secret Service agents. The video appears below or at this link.

According to the TMZ report, the clip "shows the moment the gunman opened fire at the Butler, PA rally Saturday -- and you can see the guy looking through either a scope or iron sights on a roof ... with people watching down below and freaking out, their panic palpable."

"The guy has longer brown hair, and he seems to be wearing a grey shirt/khaki pants -- and as you can see, he's carefully trying pinpoint a target from afar before pulling the trigger," the site reports.

Federal law enforcement officials have identified the shooter of former President Donald Trump as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, a native of Bethel Park, PA, a relatively affluent area south of Pittsburgh about an hour's drive from where Trump was speaking Saturday night.

They said they found two explosive devices in Crooks' car and may have found a third at his residence. President Joe Biden has said he will address the nation about the incident today at 1:30pm E.T.

"Authorities have given no indication that they have a motive for the shooting," the New York Timesreported Sunday. "Early on Sunday morning, law enforcement officers closed down all roads leading toward the home of the suspect’s family in Bethel Park, about an hour’s drive from the site of the rally."
