'An Absolute Joke': Michael Avenatti Says Trump 'Can’t Even Protect His Own Phone Line' After Taking Prank Call on Air Force One
Michael Avenatti now represents “Stuttering John” Melendez, the comedian who prank-called Donald Trump and then got a call back from the president aboard Air Force One. In an interview with CNN Tuesday morning, the attorney explained why he took the case.
Melendez, the lawyer who famously represents Trump mistress Stormy Daniels said, contacted him last week about potentially representing him. A few days later, the Secret Service showed up at the comedian’s door — and Avenatti agreed to take the case.
He’s now working out whether Melendez should grant the Secret Service the interview they seek, the lawyer told CNN’s John Berman. Part of that reasoning includes a deeper investigation.
“I’m in the process of getting to the bottom of this and how the president could allow such a security breach,” Avenatti said. “This is a president who talks about tough security and protecting America — he can’t even protect his own phone line.”
