Arizona Democratic Party could deny support for Sen. Sinema over her push to maintain the filibuster

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema's (D-Ariz.) adamant refusal to support Democratic lawmakers' push to end the legislative filibuster and her work with Senate Republicans could lead to "non-support" from her own political party if one progressive activist prevails.

According to AZ Central, William Harris, an Arizona state committee member, has introduced a proposed resolution titled "Emergency Resolution Of Non-Support of U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema."

The resolution reportedly seeks to deny the embattled lawmaker "an opportunity to speak in person or electronically to the party 'until such time as she accepts her responsibilities to support' the party platforms and the voters who sent her to Washington in 2018.'"

It also seeks to end the Democratic Party's "written, verbal and financial support" of Sinema for any campaigns in connection with future political positions she may seek.

Although Democratic lawmakers control the House, Senate, and White House, the small margin of control they have has given Republican lawmakers a fighting chance to keep the filibuster alive — with Sinema's help.

It is unclear whether or not Harris' resolution will gain enough support for consideration. However, the publication does note one flaw in the proposed resolution: it describes Sinema as "an opponent of the Democratic-led For the People Act"

"There are some factually inaccurate things in there and he's the only sponsor of it, and it's always good to get some other people lined up to get resolutions passed," Burns said. "I don't want to jump the gun and say what my committee is going to do, but my feeling is that the other three resolutions were better crafted."
