WATCH: Matt Gaetz's extremist takeover remarks just backfired in a major way
10 December 2021
Democratic lawmakers quickly fired back at Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-Fla.) disturbing prediction envisioning a far-right extremist take over of the U.S. House of Representatives.
On Thursday, December 9, Democrats released an ad highlighting Gaetz's remarks as they noted the dangers of it and what it could mean for the United States if Republicans did manage to take over House, reports HuffPost. The video, which included a caption that read, “When Republicans tell you who they are are, listen,” has been viewed more than 350,000.
Social media users also shared their reactions to the ad as they voiced their concerns about it. Some users also noted how Gaetz's remarks in the ad actually align with his recent discussion with Steve Bannon where they suggested preparing"4000 shock troops" to "man the government. One Twitter user wrote, "The parallels to Nazi Germany in the 1930s are too close to ignore."
Another user wrote, "Call me old fashioned, but if Matt Gaetz and Steve Bannon are talking about raising "an army of patriots" and "4,000 shock troops" to take over the government, they should probably be arrested."
The latest ad follows Gaetz reckless remarks during a recent news conference on Tuesday, December 7. At the time, the Florida lawmaker shared his hopes for the 2022 primary elections as he pondered what that would mean for the House Select Committee's investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection.
"We are going to take power after this next election. When we do, it's not going to be the days of Paul Ryan, and Trey Gowdy, and no real oversight, and no real subpoenas," Gaetz said at a news conference. "It's going to be the days of Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Dr. Gosar, and myself."
