'Unacceptable': South Florida GOP members explain why they broke ranks with the party on Marjorie Taylor Greene

Three Republican lawmakers in South Florida broke ranks with their political party over the recent controversies surrounding Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), slamming its inability to denounce her dangerous rhetoric and actions.

According to Sun-Sentinel, U.S. Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart, Carlos Gimenez, and Maria Salazar were three out of 11 House Republicans who voted to strip Greene of her duties on multiple House committees. Now, they are explaining why they made that decision.

On multiple occasions, Greene sparked controversy with her support of conspiracy theories about mass shootings, civil unrest and even the pandemic. For the three opposing Florida lawmakers, Greene has gone too far.

"Her comments and intent to spread lies and conspiracies must not be tolerated," Gimenez said, adding, "When she goes after students, victims, and survivors of senseless gun violence as in the case of the Parkland High School shooting, she loses all credibility as someone assigned to crafting policies in protection of children from violence."

"I had to hold Marjorie Taylor Greene accountable for her denial of the Parkland Massacre, the Flight 77 crash, and accusing a Jewish family of starting the California wildfires," Salazar said.

Diaz-Balart also made it clear that, "MTG's comments are unacceptable."

Despite the criticism Greene has faced for her actions and her rhetoric, she is still defending herself. During a press conference on Friday, Feb.5, Greene claimed Republicans are not pleased with the 11 lawmakers who voted in favor of removing her from House committees. According to Greene, their actions are a form of "betrayal."

"I hope that my Republican colleagues really think about what they've done," Greene said. "I'm sure they're going to hear from their voters at home because the base is loyal to President Trump and the base has been very loyal to me and they've shown me that."

In response to her removal from House committees, she suggested that the silver lining would be more free time on her hands, reports Politico. "If I was on a committee, I'd be wasting my time, because my conservative values wouldn't be heard, and neither would my district's," Greene said.

"Now, I have a lot of free time on my hands," she added, "which means I can talk to a whole lot more people all over this country, and I can talk to more people and make connections and build a huge amount of support."
