Former President Donald Trump was left seething when former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) finally acknowledged he'd lost the presidential election, a new book says.

According to HuffPost, Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa's new book, "Peril," offers details about a number of shocking claims that unfolded during Trump's last days in office.

McConnell's remarks about the election outcome were made on the Senate floor on December 15. At the time, the Republican lawmaker acknowledged Biden's win while also addressing Trump in the midst of his ongoing fight to overturn the results of the election.

Almost immediately after McConnell's remarks were reported publicly, Trump called the lawmaker and quickly "spewed expletives" at him. But, McConnell reportedly did not back down.

"Mr. President," the Kentucky Republican said, "the Electoral College has spoken. That's the way we pick a president in this country.".

According to Woodard and Costa, the top-ranking Republican lawmaker also "be the final time he and Trump would ever speak to each other."

Trump lambasted McConnell for his remarks as he reportedly claimed the lawmaker was "weak and disloyal," according to Business Insider.

Since January, Trump.and McConnell have repeatedly insulted each other and made critical comments aimed at one another. However, it has been confirmed that the two have not spoken directly since April.

"Peril" is set to be released on September 21.
