U.S. President Donald Trump in Dearborn, Michigan, January 13, 2026.
President Donald Trump, 80. had another late-night accident after referring to Brazil as India.
According to Trump, he believes that American elections are fraudulent because Brazil can get results faster than the U.S.
First, Trump flubbed his own data point, claiming that India had an election with 125 million people. It has since been deleted after Indian news sites caught the flub, the Daily Beast observed. India is a country of nearly 1.5 billion people. If only 125 million people voted in India, that would be a shockingly low number as they typically have about 900 million to 1 billion voters cast a ballot, France 24 reported after their previous election.
"Trump's reference appeared to be to Brazil, which held the first round of its presidential election on Sunday. Brazil recorded more than 125 million valid votes, according to the country's Superior Electoral Court (TSE), and the results were released progressively after voting ended at 5 pm," wrote The New Indian Express.
Brazil is headed to a runoff as neither candidate reached 50 percent of the vote. India didn't have an election over the weekend.
Trump later changed it, "125 Million People voted today in the first round of Brazil’s Presidential Election. The results came out shortly after the vote closed, on the SAME DAY! In Detroit, Philadelphia, California, and numerous other U.S. Cities and States, the results, with much smaller numbers, will often take weeks to Rig, I mean, calculate. Voting in America is CORRUPT!!!"
He then signed it "President DJT."
This isn't the first time Trump has spread rumors about fraud in the 2026 election, which hasn't even happened yet. He's repeatedly claimed that the results will likely be fraudulent because the House and Senate didn't pass his so-called "SAVE America Act," which would issue significant restrictions on voters at the last minute.
Taking to the airwaves in July, Trump alleged the U.S. faced “shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure” and warned that U.S. elections could be “rigged and stolen.” He said voting machines and ballot-counting systems were vulnerable to “hacking and manipulation and corruption,” and claimed evidence of fraud had been “buried," the New York Times reported at the time.
According to Trump, the fraud comes from mail-in ballots, which Trump called "inherently corrupt.” Earlier, while signing an election-related executive order in March, he said, “The cheating on mail-in voting is legendary.”
On Sunday afternoon, Trump also released a video again promising to give Americans $5,000 if they vote for Republicans.
