‘Village idiot’ Trump would have let Putin take Ukraine ‘no questions asked’: journalist

Kremlin propagandists on Russian state television have expressed frustration over Moscow's inability to sway British politics as it does in the United States.

The panelists on Russia 1 gloated over the resignation of United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson and lamented the fact that it would be far more difficult [for Russian President Vladimir Putin's internet troll farms] to influence the selection of his successor than to get former President Donald Trump reelected in 2024.

"They're starting to replace some of the most odious leaders. That demonstrates that our actions are successful. As our president said, we haven't even started yet," Duma lawmaker and host Evgeny Popov complained, referring to what Putin boasted on Thursday regarding his genocidal invasion of Ukraine.

Johnson has been one of the fiercest European allies of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Everyone should know that, by and large, we haven’t started anything yet in earnest,” Putin said in an address to parliamentary leaders. "At the same time, we don’t reject peace talks. But those who reject them should know that the further it goes, the harder it will be for them to negotiate with us.”

Putin accused the West of wanting to fight "down to the last Ukrainian," which he unironically characterized as a “tragedy for the Ukrainian people, but it seems that everything is heading towards this."

Popov, meanwhile, crowed that "it would be great if we were replacing those leaders the way we elected President Trump of the US. Now we need to elect the new prime minister. Unfortunately, they aren't elected in the UK, but get appointed."

Popov then conceded that "we won't be able to influence the will of British voters. Nonetheless, we'll see who replaces Boris." He added that "we aren't experiencing any optimism in that regard."
