'Very arrogant guy': DeSantis’ former colleagues slam him for poor interpersonal skills
21 April 2023
Former colleagues of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) did not mince words when they verbalized their disapproval of his interpersonal skills — or lack thereof.
According to a report published by Politico on Friday, former Rep. David Trott (R-Mich.) recalled his interactions with DeSantis and what it was like during the time they served together on the Foreign Affairs Committee. In short, Trott insists the Florida governor lacks manners.
"I sat right next to DeSantis for two years on the Foreign Affairs Committee, and he never said a single word to me," Trott said. "I was new to Congress, and he didn't introduce himself or even say hello."
Trott also went a step further with an even more critical take on the Republican leader adding, "I think he's an a**hole. I don't think he cares about people."
The Michigan lawmaker's remarks follow another gesture that recently raised questions about DeSantis' interpersonal skills.
On Thursday, April 20, "The New York Times" released a report which included details about the days following the death of Rep. Anna Paulina Luna's (R-Fla.) father. Although former President Donald Trump penned a letter expressing condolences, things were different for the Florida governor. Per the report, DeSantis' wife, Casey, sent a letter on his behalf, but he did not offer one himself.

Weighing in on the situation, Luna offered a comparison between DeSantis and Trump.
"Trump's operation is personal," Luna said. "You take the time to actually get to know the people you're going to be working with and that does make a difference."
