Nick Fuentes subpoenaed by Jan. 6 committee following his suggestion that lawmakers be killed: report

White nationalist Nick Fuentes has been subpoenaed to testify before the House Select Committee in connection with the investigation into the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.

On Thursday, January 19, the House Select Committee released a copy of the letter addressed to Fuentes.

Per Politico, there is no evidence to suggest that Fuentes entered the U.S. Capitol, but the committee has indicated that there is evidence of his participation in the rallies that were held prior to the Capitol breach:

"They participated in rallies ahead of the attack, including the 2020 Million MAGA March and 'Stop the Steal' rallies 'where they called for the destruction of the Republican Party for failing to overturn the election,' according to the committee."

Another highlighted issue is Fuentes' alleged encouragement of killing lawmakers. The Bulwark’s Christian Vanderbrouk noted Fuentes' words during a rally prior to the insurrection.

“What can you and I do to a state legislator besides kill ’em?” Fuentes said. “Although we should not do that. I’m not advising that but I mean what else can you do right?”

So far, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has brought charges against more than 750 individuals in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection. House Select Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) has also released a statement reiterating the purpose of the committee's work.

“The Select Committee is seeking facts about the planning, coordination, and funding of events that preceded the violent attack on our democracy,” Thompson said in a statement. “We believe the individuals we have subpoenaed today have information relevant to those questions, and we expect them to cooperate with the committee.”
