New campaign ad targets Mehmet Oz amid animal abuse allegations

A new Democrat-backed campaign ad is targeting Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate, Dr. Mehmet Oz, amid allegations of animal abuse during his time as “principal investigator” for the Institute of Comparative Medicine at Columbia University.

According to Politico, the two ads were released by the Democratic super political action committee (PAC), Senate Majority PAC. One of the ads, titled, "Cruel," features "footage of dogs in cages and muzzles spliced with video of Oz in a lab coat, as a narrator details the alleged abuse."

As the clips rolled, a narrator could be heard saying, “It’s a story of unimaginable abuse. Mehmet Oz ran experiments on puppies, killing over three hundred dogs. They were subjected to extreme suffering. … Puppies struggling to breathe, leaking blood, vomiting, paralysis; their screams horrifying.”

The second ad is a 30-second clip titled, "6313” and chronicles the life of a canine housed in Oz’s lab.

The name of the ad is the puppy's number in the lab. The ad, per Politico, documents the animal's suffering in Oz's lab for 29 days. That was until the controversial doctor “took her for the ‘last experiment.’”

By the end of each ad, the same conclusion is drawn: Oz is “unfit to be Pennsylvania’s senator.”

In response to the harrowing allegations, Oz has denied involvement in any form of abuse. A spokesperson for his campaign argues that he was “not in the operating room when the operations were done, he wasn’t present during the post-op treatments, no one alerted him of the problem until after the cases were finished and he does not condone the mistreatment of animals.”

Following the release of the ads on Tuesday, October 10, Senate Majority PAC spokesperson Veronica Yoo released a statement further expounding on the allegations.

“Puppy killer Mehmet Oz should be under investigation for animal abuse—not running for U.S. Senate,” Yoo said in the statement. “Pennsylvania families deserve a Senator who chooses compassion over unconscionable cruelty, and that’s why they’ll reject Oz and stand with John Fetterman in November.”
